Collecting a way of seeing.

A collection often begins with an image that stays in the mind. In Claudio Viarengo’s photographs, landscape, the human figure and abstraction offer different ways of returning to that first encounter.

The thread between works

The thread between works

Placing photographs together reveals echoes, distances and tensions. The collections let you follow these relationships while keeping each image close to the work it comes from. Exhibitions offer another reading, shaped by sequence and space. Moving between the two can help a personal interest become a considered choice.

A personal collection need not explain itself at first sight. It may hold distant images together or follow one question over many years. Moving from landscape to the body and from architecture to abstraction makes it possible to look for correspondences: a line dividing a space, a figure crossing it, a change in the weight of light.

Return to the photographs after leaving them for a while. Consider them in a different order and alongside works you already live with. An immediate attraction can develop into a deeper understanding. A conversation with the artist gives that attention a context and helps keep the individual photograph connected to the work behind it.

Before choosing, ask about the particular work, its availability and the terms of purchase.
