Following an artistic enquiry.
Studying a photographer means noticing what changes and what returns. Claudio Viarengo began exploring photography independently in 2022; the portfolio brings together several directions within that developing work.
From recognition to abstractionFrom recognition to abstraction
A street image holds a gesture; intentional camera movement alters a shape; a close detail makes a surface unfamiliar. Street Photography, ICM and Abstract Minimalism can be read in sequence to examine these differences. The collections invite attention to choices, rather than a search for a formula.
A photographic enquiry can be approached through the questions an image leaves unresolved. Where does a form begin? How little of an object can remain before it becomes unfamiliar? What changes when a gesture is held still? Moving between series grounds these questions in specific photographs.
Choose two images with distant subjects and consider what connects them: a direction of light, the weight of a line or the relationship between centre and edge. Another exercise is to return to a photograph after visiting an exhibition. Context changes attention. The site offers ways to explore that change, allowing the works themselves to keep the questions open.
These pages invite a reading of the work. For questions about the photographs or a proposed encounter, contact the artist directly.
